Engine Failure Ruled Out in Kenya Plane Crash That Killed Ministers
June 12, 2008
Preliminary reports released on Wednesday have ruled out the possibility that the plane crash that claimed the lives of Kenya’s Roads Minister Kikpalya Kones and Home Affairs Assistant Minister Lorna Laboso might have crashed due to engine failure on Tuesday afternoon.
Addressing reporters in Nairobi, Agriculture Minister William Ruto said findings by Kenya’s Civil Association investigators reveal that the there was poor visibility at the time of the flight, adding that at the time the plane crashed the engine was running.
Ruto appealed for patience from Kenyans as the investigators unearth the real cause of the crash.
Meanwhile, members of parliament have called for a thorough and speedy investigation into the cause of the crash.
Both ministers, the pilot and a bodyguard perished in the crash after the six-seater Cessna aircraft crashed on the roof of an unoccupied house on a hillside in Narok in the Rift Valley Province, about 140 kilometers west of Nairobi.
