The Ethiopian Agriculture and Rural Development State Minister Dr. Aberra Deressa has said that Ethiopia has earned over $250 million from flower exports in the past ten months.
Dr. Aberra Deressa said that the flower export is showing a great rise since the past few years, creating job opportunities for over 100,000 people.
Ethiopia has started to get a huge amount of money from flower export, which is expected to be the major foreign exchange earning next to coffee.
“The government believes it is just the beginning. The government is fully committed to the sustainable expansion of the production of cut flowers, fruits, vegetables and fresh herbs for export,” said Deressa.
Kenya is the major flower exporter to the international market.
However, a good number of flower investors are coming to Ethiopia since 2009 after the Ethiopian government introduced incentives for the sector.
