Ethiopia announced on Tuesday that it has plans to generate around $6.6 billion from export of agricultural products in the next five years.
The Ethiopian Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that various activities are being carried out to achieve the target by 2015.
Ethiopia, known for its agricultural products currently obtains annually $1.3 billion from exports.
Coffee, Ethiopia’s main export is generating about 20 per cent of the agricultural earnings.
Sesame, and flower exports are among others through which the country is generating a lot of foreign earning.
According to Ethiopia’s Agriculture Ministry, some 3.3 hectares of land would be designated for investors with a view to enhancing the participation of investors in the sector.
Ethiopia’s current grain reserve will grow to three million tons from 403,000 tons in the next five years, said the ministry.
