Ethiopia fixed 23 May 2010 as date of the national elections during which over 20 million Ethiopians are expected to cast their votes. The National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) approved the date for the voting while election results will be made official on 21 June 2010.
The Board said that logistics will be ready to hold the election on the same day across the country.
“The board approved the timetable taking into consideration ideas raised during the discussion held on 24 October among political parties,” said NEBE.
It should be recalled that the Ethiopian ruling party and the three main opposition parties signed on Friday an Electoral code of conduct agreement in a bid to help hold free, fair and transparent elections.
The Electoral Code of Conduct agreement was signed after two months of negotiation.
The ruling Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF), All Ethiopian Unity Organization (AEUO), the Ethiopian Democratic Party (EDP) and the Coalition for Unity and Democracy (CUD) were the parties to the discussion.
