The European Union (EU) has made a grant of 6.1 million Euros( 4 billion CFA francs), to implement the electoral process in Guinea Bissau.
The funding, according to Finance Minister José Mario Vaz, will help stabilize the electoral process for the period 2010 to 2012.
The agreement signed between Guinea Bissau and Brussels has three goals ; including building the capacity and management of the electoral process, the adoption of tools and methodologies of the election administration to the specific needs of the countries that share the Portuguese language, said the EU representative in Bissau, Franco Nulli.
“The European Union, under the Millennium Development Goals and existing cooperation ties, is promoting through this intervention the strengthening of democratic systems and the exercise of citizenship, with the direct beneficiaries being the electoral authorities in Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Soa Tome and Principe and East Timor,” he said.
