The European Union (EU) has granted Malawi MK5.8 billion, or 28 million Euros to supplement the country’s national budget for 2010/11 which is due to be tabled in parliament in June.
According to a statement from EU office in the capital Lilongwe, the support was an acknowledgment that the group has on Malawi’s performance in handling its economy and poverty reduction efforts.
“We are happy that Malawi has successfully implemented programs on the economy and poverty reduction aimed at improving people’s living standards,” the statement said.
The EU grouping would continue to support the country under various programs in order to further reduce poverty, the statement added.
