The European Union (EU) which has been invited by Ethiopia to observe the up coming elections will decide soon whether to observe the May national elections.
Currently,the EU has a team assessing the situation on the ground.
Diplomats told APA that the team will present a report to the EU officials and member states about its mission to Ethiopia in which a decision will soon be made whether the EU will deploy election observer mission or not.
So far, the mission met and held talks with Ethiopian government officials and opposition parties as well as media organizations and civil society organizations in the country.
The EU observed the 2005 national elections in Ethiopia.
On Wednesday, APA learned that the Carter Center, which has been invited by the Ethiopian government declined to observe the election without giving any official reason.
Around 30 million people are expected to cast their vote in the May 2010 national polls in Ethiopia, home to around 80 million people.
It will be the fourth election to be held under the current regime.

Please the European Observers take a look in detail what conditions are there in the country for the election process, as an example one of the prominent opposition part leader “BIRTUKAN MIDEKSA” she is jailed for life in prison for unsatisfactory reason. If she were not in prison the ruling part leaders very well knows that she could motivate the whole country. Please without the release of this leader it is hard to conduct a fair and free election in the country
