At 12.15 in the afternoon Liverpool Coastguard were contacted by Air Traffic Control to inform them that a light aircraft had disappeared from their radars and was suspected of ditching off Morecambe Bay.

The aircraft had been traveling from Guernsey to the Isle of Man when the incident occurred, and Liverpool Coastguard immediately tasked resources to search for the one person reported to be on board. 

Fleetwood RNLI lifeboat was tasked, along with Rescue 122 Helicopter from RAF Valley.  A standby vessel from a nearby rig, the ‘Vos Pathfinder’ also joined in the search.

At 12.30 the ‘Vos Pathfinder’ reported recovering the lone female casualty from the water, who was said to be wet, cold and in shock, but with no injuries.  The woman was then taken to the onboard hospital.  Rescue 177 is proceeding to the vessel to pick up the casualty and take her back to shore.

Jim Paton, Duty Operations Manager said:

“The fact that this woman was recovered alive and without injury is a credit to the swift response of the rescue resources involved, and the assistance of the standby vessel who rescued the woman and assessed her condition.”
