Mountain Airways Company, a privately owned company operating in Lesotho, has leased 6 aircraft from Aerocare Company based in Bloemfontein, South Africa, to speed up transportation of goods and people.
One of the aircraft, a Cessna Caravan, arrived at the Moshoeshoe International Airport, 40 km south of the capital, Maseru on Wednesday.
One of the Mountain Airways Directors, Serialong Qoo, who is also a Member of Parliament, said the aircraft were part of their efforts meant to contribute in enhancing the government’s policy of speedy service delivery.
”Sustainable and reliable transportation is one of the key elements in a democratic country. The aircraft will ferry passengers at minimal prices to far flung areas such as Mokhotlong, Thaba-Tseka and Qacha’s nek.
Cessna Caravan is described as a strong rugged aircraft meant to carry heavy loads and praised for its design for high elevations.
Mountain Airways will be the only airline company operating within the country, while South African Airways, a South African airline company, operates between Moshoeshoe International Airport in Lesotho and Johannesburg in South Africa.
