A four-member delegation headed by Senegalese Foreign Minister Madieke Niang has delivered a special message to Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf from President Abdoulaye Wade.
According to a Presidential Mansion press statement, the message centered on issues relating to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Foreign Minister Niang, on behalf of the Senegalese President, lauded President Johnson Sirleaf for the paramount role she continues to play in confronting the critical issues affecting the sub-region. He said that President Wade was proud to have the Liberian leader as a partner, commending her for promoting peace in Liberia and the sub-region.
President Johnson Sirleaf, in response, welcomed the delegation and recounted Senegal’s role in the restoration of peace in Liberia. President Wade, the Liberian leader noted, has been supportive of the peace Liberia now enjoys.
According to the statement, the Liberian leader spoke of the Senegalese President as one who is always responsive to her call and that of the Liberian people.
“I am pleased that whenever he calls on me, I am obliged to respond,” the Liberian President said.
Speaking of ECOWAS, the Mano River Union Chair person acknowledged the challenges in the sub-region, but expressed satisfaction that Liberia enjoys good relations with all countries. The President praised the progress ECOWAS has made over the past two years, as it focuses more on issues of development, particularly connectivity.
The Senegalese delegation has since left Liberia for home.
