The Senegalese Minister of Finance and Economy Abdoulaye Diop has signed a CFA 20 billion worth financing agreement with French ambassador to Senegal Jean Christophe Rufin and French Development Agency director Denis Castaing on Monday in Dakar.
This French Development Agency assistance is meant to finance part of the Dakar-Diamniadio Highway and related urban development, which aims to create conditions to improve traffic between Dakar and its suburbs.
According to Minister Diop, this funding is intended “to meet strong demand for commuters” but also “to improve traffic conditions between Dakar, its suburbs and the rest of the country.”
“Beyond the construction of the Pikine-Diamniadio section it will also help develop the resettlement areas of displaced families as part of the implementation of the project,” he added.
For his part, the French Jean-Christophe Ruffin stressed that “the construction of the highway is a major challenge for Dakar and its outskirts because the capital is in a constant state of traffic congestion.
“As designed, this project aims to create the necessary infrastructure for smooth movement while having a positive impact on the entire population,” he said.
