Freeview Users Must Re-tune Set Top Box to Continue to Receive BBC World Service

July 16, 2008

BBC World Service listeners in the UK who access the international radio channel via Freeview will need to re-tune their set top box to continue listening after Monday 4 August 2008. The re-tuning (or re-scanning) action is required as BBC World Service is changing to a different digital terrestrial multiplex – one of the bouquets of digital spectrum that provide the channels and services on Freeview.

The multiplex move means that although BBC World Service keeps the same channel number of 710, the box will need to be re-tuned to find the channel in its new home.

The new multiplex will give BBC World Service greater coverage across the UK than its previous home. This change affects no other channels.

Retuning (or rescanning) your digital box is straightforward.

Some digital boxes and TVs re-tune automatically, others need to be manually re-tuned.

To manually re-tune you need to press “Menu” on your remote control and follow the on-screen instructions or those printed in your manual.

The process may differ slightly depending on which manufacturer box you have, however the typical sequence is:

* Press Menu on your remote control
* From the Menu options, select the ‘Tuning Menu’
* Select ‘Auto Setup’ or ‘Update’ (also referred to as ‘Rescan’, ‘Replace’ or ‘Store Channels’) to re-tune your digital TV

If you need any more information, have a look at your manual or get in touch with the manufacturer.

Please note you will suffer service loss if you do not re-tune.
