The 18th Regional Meeting of the African French-speaking Parliamentary Assembly (APF) that met from 10 to 11 May in Kinshasa expressed the wish to see the military junta in Niger take the necessary measures for a rapid restoration of constitutional order in that country, said the final communiqué of the meeting.
The Assembly also discussed the crises prevailing in other African francophone countries that are suspended from the APF such as Guinea Conakry, Cote d’Ivoire, Madagascar and Mauritania which is under observation.
Concerning Guinea Conakry, the Assembly took note of the willingness of the ruling military junta to hold elections in June.
However, APF deplored the continuous delay in the ongoing electoral process in Cote d’Ivoire, and wished for the holding of elections in that country as soon as possible.
As of Madagascar, the Assembly took note of the political agreements between different actors in the crisis. It called for the quick holding of free, fair and democratic elections in order to restore constitutional order.
Regarding Mauritania, the Kinshasa meetings took note that the APF put it under observation for two years, in accordance with its statutes, after the effective organization of early presidential elections that led to the restoration of order constitutional.
About Comoros, the Assembly noted the need to monitor the electoral process up to its completion.
Finally, AFP noted with satisfaction the return of political stability in Burundi.
The following sections and delegations attended the 18th meeting : Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo, DR Congo, Egypt, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Mali, Morocco, Chad, Togo, Senegal, CEMAC, OIF, APF Secretariat.
The 19th meeting will be held in Morocco.
