A private radio station reported Tuesday that long queues have resurfaced at filling stations in Zimbabwe’s Masvingo town as a shortage of fuel hits the southern part of the country.
Radio Voice of the People (VOP) said long queues had become the order of the day at filling stations in the town, located midway between the capital Harare and the busy Beitbridge border post on the boundary with South Africa.
The radio said Masvingo has been dry since last Friday and motorists have been sleeping in fuel queues.
Some filling station owners blamed the shortage on problems transporting fuel from South Africa but said normal supplies would resume after the Christmas and New Year holiday.
The fuel shortages coincided with the re-emergence of long queues for cash outside banks in the capital.
The central bank blamed the cash shortage on lack of liquidity in the banking sector.
