For the second time in less than a month, the Gambian leader Yahya Jammeh had to cancel an overseas trip at the very last minute due to some technical problems, state-owned Radio Gambia announced Sunday.
According to the announcement, an hour into the flight from Banjul International Airport on Sunday for a visit to Qatar, it was realized that a bird had entered one of the engines of the aircraft carrying the President. As a result of this development, the pilot had to return to Banjul where he safely landed the plane.
Coincidentally, about two weeks ago, the President also had to postpone a trip to Paris where he was scheduled to address the UNESCO General Conference, after all departure arrangements were completed. This was said to be due to “technical reasons,” which sources later said were because there was some smoke coming out from the engine of the plane.
