Gay Rights Trial Opens in Ugandan Court

The hearing began Tuesday of a criminal trespass case against three gay rights activists at a Kampala court with the Detective Police constable Opolu Nicholas implicating them in the criminal charges.

He told the presiding Buganda road court magistrate Suzan Kanyange on Tuesday that the three without any invitation and permission entered into the international meeting for HIV/AIDS implementers at a local hotel holding placards advocating their rights.

The three who are members of sexual minority organization include Pepe Julian Onzima, Usaam Mukwaya and Kalende sneaked into the conference holding placards with inscriptions: “Gay Ugandans are also Ugandans and need HIV prevention and car”.

They issued a seven page document soliciting for funds for their activities in Uganda .
