July 18, 2008
Visiting members of the German Federal Parliament on Thursday in Luanda expressed interest in setting up a Volkswagen assembly plant and a commercial dealer of the vehicle in Angola.
This was expressed during private talks the delegation held with the Angolan Deputy Prime Minister Aguinaldo Jaime in which the MP’s also showed interest in investing in the sectors of agriculture, infrastructure construction and service delivery with local partners.
Social Christian Party Member of Parliament, Kurt Rossmanith, said that the meeting served to strengthen the economic relations between the two countries.
Aguinaldo Jaime, who received from the MP’s a letter from the German Federal Parliament, said that they “viewed the cooperation between the two countries with great satisfaction” and assured his guests that there were plenty of opportunities for the participation of Germany in the reconstruction of the war-torn African country.
The Deputy Prime Minister added that as result of good economic relations, Angola had already regularized its debt with Germany and it is currently negotiating a credit-line of “significant amounts”.
“Germany wants to keep more and more its presence in our market and it thinks of opening a commercial representation, which will enable a greater approach between the two business communities”, he stressed.
