The Rwanda government through the ministry of Local Government and the German Reighlands Province has signed a memorandum of understanding of 1.6 million Euro towards agro-forestry at a function held in Rwanda’s capital of Kigali.
Rwanda’s Minister of Local Government Christophe Bazivamo told APA that the Rwandan government and the Reignlands have a long standing co-operation in many areas including agriculture, education and trade.
He said this particular donation was towards environmental protection through agro-forestry in order to have crops and forests grow in same piece of land given the country’s limited land area.
“we need to utilize land effectively, where we cannot have forests planted alone, we plant tree species that can grow with crops where the environment will be protected as well as crops produced,” Bazivamo said.
Among other areas of co-operation between the Rwandan government and the Reignlands are skills development, improved coffee production and journalists exchange programs.
