Germany Lifts Travel Advisory Against Kenya
March 6, 2008
German ambassador to Kenya Walter Linder said on Wednesday that his government has lifted the travel advisory it slapped against the country in the wake of the post-election violence following disputed presidential elections.
Speaking in Nairobi, Linder urged other European countries to follow suit.
He said the German government is encouraging its citizens to visit the country but warns them to be cautious when visiting the vast Rift Valley province that experienced ethnic cleansing.
He said the signing of the peace deal last week between President Mwai Kibaki and opposition leader Raila Odinga prompted the German government to lift the travel advisory.
He urged Kibaki and Odinga to fully implement the peace pact brokered by former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
