Kufuor, Bush Commend Each Other on Historic Visit

President John Agyekum Kufuor of Ghana and visiting US President George Bush on Wednesday held bilateral talks at the seat of government in Accra and later commended each other for the historic visit.
This was the first event after the US President was received to a rousing welcome to Ghana on Tuesday night.
Speaking at the ceremony, President John Agyekum Kufuor commended President Bush for his dedication to the fight against tropical diseases and HIV/AIDS.
He indicated that Africa has benefited with money US towards the fight against AIDS in Africa.
He was also grateful to the world’s most powerful leader for pledging an amount of US$350 million towards the elimination of some deadly diseases on the continent over the next five years.
President Bush for his part, also praised President Kufuor as being one of the most respected leaders in the world explaining that rulers like President Kufuor won the African continent great respect.
He expressed gratitude to Ghanaians for the warm reception accorded him and his wife, Laura on arrival in Ghana.
Later at a press conference, President Bush explained that some of the diseases targeted to be eliminated with US$350 million grant from the continent are river blindness and guinea worm while US$70 million has been set aside to combat malaria, which contributes to many deaths on the continent.
