125px-Flag_of_Ghana.svg_Ghanaian President John Evans Atta Mills has asked again that the executive of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the main football governing body on the continent, to consider lifting the four-year banned slapped on Togo for withdrawing from the Angola 2010 African Cup of Nations following a rebel attacked on their national team.

In a speech read on his behalf by Vice President John Mahama on Thursday night at the GLO-CAF 2009 Awards in Accra, President Mills appealed to CAF to tamper justice with mercy by taking into consideration Africans’ understanding of traumatic experience.

President Mills had earlier on Tuesday made an appeal to CAF President Issa Hayatou to lift the ban on Togo when Hayatou paid a courtesy call on him at Osu Castle, the seat of government in Accra.

President Mills, who was given platinum for his contribution towards sports in Africa, dedicated the award to God, the people of Ghana, former Ghanaian leaders and football administrators.

President Mills expressed appreciation to CAF for raising the standard of football in Africa and commended GLO for its impressive and continuous support to CAF.

CAF President Issa Hayatou in his opening address intimated that African football had come a long way and that such feat had been made possible because of contributions from the various governments on the continent.
