125px-Flag_of_Ghana.svg_1Dr. Ave Kodzo Kludze Jnr, a Ghanaian rocket scientist who works with the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in Atlanta, has called on Ghanaian students to focus more on science and mathematics in order to produce more scientists for the country.

Delivering a speech at the 100 years anniversary celebration of Adisadel College in Cape Coast on Saturday, Dr. Kludze said Ghana and Africa could only develop when more attention was focused on science and technology because science is the main factor for any country’s development.

He has therefore called on African governments to encourage the study of science and mathematics in their various educational institutions so as to produce more scientists to fast track the development of the continent.

The NASA rocket scientist is an alumnus of Adisadel College. He was chosen to be the special guest speaker for the centenary anniversary celebration.

Dr. Kludze promised to establish a science and engineering center at Adisadel College to encourage more students to learn science and mathematics, promising that he will bring down top scientists in the world to teach the students. He stated further that the center when complete will hold video conferences, among other programs, to stimulate the learning of science.

The principal of Adisadel College, Mr. Kwesi Krufi Graham said since the establishment of the school in 1910 by Anglican missionaries, it has produced prominent people in all fields, adding that the school was very proud with the achievement of Dr. Kludze.

According to Mr. Graham, the school was started with 29 students but now has an enrollment of 1,447 with all of them staying in the school. He hinted that the school is currently rated 10th best among 100 best second cycle schools in Africa, explaining that the school scored 99.1 percent in last year’s West African Senior Secondary School Examinations.
