March 31, 2008
Due to years of indebtedness in the form of taxes to government, several business centers have been ordered closed in the Sierra Leonean capital, Freetown.
The Freetown municipal authorities said the business centers owe 218 million Leone, approximately seven million dollars between 2004 and 2008.
Freetown City Council authorities say 20 major business centers including restaurants and bars will remain closed as of Monday in an effort to collect these debts.
The Council is on a massive revenue drive to recover huge amounts of money owed it by businessmen and women particularly in the capital, Freetown.
A high powered team led by the Estate Officer of the Freetown City Council, Mr. Lawrence Lansana visited several locations Monday in the heart of the city to carry out the order.
