Guinea National Exams Postponed Again in Anticipation of Teachers’ Strike

The Guinean education authorities have again postponed the national exams including the baccalaureate due a strike notice issued on 28 May by the Inter-unionists, sources said on Tuesday.
The exams which were initially planned for early June, were first postponed to mid-June and then to the end of June.
Secondary school Entrance exams will be held on 1 to 3 July, the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) exams on 7 July, and the vocational schools final exams from 30 June to 5 July.
In its strike notice, the Inter-union of teachers threatened to start an unlimited general strike if its demands were not met.
Among other things, the claims include paying teachers under contract, the integral payment of the bonuses and allowances, and the appointment of new cadres at senior posts in the educational system.
