October 23, 2008

The Egyptian multi-billionaire owner of the Harrods conglomerate, Mohamed al-Fayed, was the guest of London Metropolitan police early Wednesday where he was quizzed over alleged “sexual assault involving a 15-year-old girl.
Al-Fayed, 75, accompanied by a team of his lawyers was questioned following the victim’s claim that the aging billionaire had forcibly “French kissed” her at the headquarters of his stores at Knightsbridge, in West London.

Police sources at Scotland Yard, clarified that Mr al-Fayed was only quizzed under caution: “He was not arrested” she said.

“It is understood the girl first met the executive while shopping at Harrods with her mother. It is alleged he asked for her phone number and later invited her back to the shop” sources said.

Meanwhile, officials of Operation Sapphire, a sexual crimes unit, said they are still following up investigations; and a number of staff at Harrods will be re-interviewed.

The teenager (name withheld) first made a formal complaint at Notting Hill police station in May 2008.

Mr Fayed’s personal spokesman was unavailable for comment and Harrods press office said it could not comment at this time.

Fayed, who also owns Fulham football club, is especially known for the legal battle that accused him of “masterminding” the tragic deaths of his son Dodi and his lover Princess Diana in a car crash in a Paris tunnel in August 1997.
