Hillary Clinton Says She Won’t End Campaign

March 31, 2008

Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton says she is in no rush to end their hard-fought race for the party’s nomination.

In an interview published Sunday in The Washington Post, Clinton said she would fight all the way to the August nominating convention.

Some Democrats, including many Obama supporters, have urged Clinton to drop out of the race to allow the party to unite behind Obama, who is leading in states won, delegates committed, and votes counted.

Former President Bill Clinton dismissed concerns Sunday that continuing the primary campaign would weaken the party in the November general election. The former president said everyone should relax and let the race run its course.

Obama acknowledged Mrs. Clinton’s right to continue her campaign and said Sunday he thought the party would unify behind its eventual nominee.

Arizona Senator John McCain, the presumptive Republican Party nominee, had no campaign events scheduled Saturday or Sunday.
