March 4, 2008
Hundreds of protesters took to the streets in the southern Somali town of Dhobley on Tuesday, a day after missiles fired by the United States navy in the town killed at least four people, wounding eight others including children, witnesses said.
The protesters, mainly women and children, chanted anti-American slogans such as “Down the so-called Super Power” and “Down with their stooges”.
The protest was organized by a local women group in the town.
“We are the vulnerable and lost our beloved ones in the remorseless strike. Now some of our people are missing,” said Ruun Sheikh Mohamed, one of the organizers.
“We guess their bodies are under the huge rabble of the houses destroyed by the US missiles.”
Sa’ido Ali Abdi , one the protesters told APA that they were “terrified by planes, which keep flying over us since yesterday”.
“We want to make our voices e heard by the US administration, that is why we are protesting,” the protester said.
In another village in the same region of Lower Jubba, a small number of protesters also tuned out in the streets of Mareerey protesting against the US strike in sympathy with the people in Dhobley.
