The Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) of Guinea has indicated at a meeting on organizing the second round of the presidential elections, it needs to replenish its coffers to hold the second phase of the ballot which shall pit Cellou Dalein Diallo against Alpha Conde.
The body in charge of organizing the election in Guinea estimated its needs at about 80 billion Guinean francs or nearly €10 million.
To date, CENI have only 35 billion Guinean francs i.e. €4 million o its account, after the first round that swallowed up the bulk of the budget set at 145 billion Guinean francs i.e. nearly €20 million.
August 14 proposed by INEC to hold the second round could be delayed considering the pace in which things are moving, because all logistics should first be set before asking voters to go to polls.
CENI wants to do everything not to repeat the mistakes that marred the first round.
