Irish Prime Minister Addresses Troops Due in Chad

The outgoing Prime Minister of Ireland, Bertie Ahern on Saturday told the Irish contingent in the European peacekeeping forces for Chad that they have an important role to play in providing solace to people suffering a dreadful existence in their assignments in Chad and the Central African Republic.
Ahern was reviewing some of the Irish personnel due to leave for Chad during an inspection at McKee barracks in Dublin, during which he was briefed on the mission by the Irish General Pat Nash, who is leading the ‘EU Peace Enforcement’ mission.
When fully deployed, the Irish contingent in Chad will total 427 troops.
The Irish leader, who was forced to resign two days ago over ‘corruption, including financial misappropriation, was hailed by the Chief of Staff of the Defence Forces. Lt. General Dermot Earley, about his ‘fantastic’ interest in the military during his tenure as Prime Minister and his insistence on being kept informed of their development.
