Italy, Sierra Leone Sign Food Security Agreement

Sierra Leone and Italy have signed a three-year food security agreement worth $10 million dollars. Dr Sam Sesay, Sierra Leone’s Agriculture Minister said the project will be administered through the Italian Trust Fund for Food Security and Food Safety.
Among other things, Sesay said the project will seek to significantly contribute to food security through the support for a modern competitive and commercially vibrant agriculture sector.
The Head of the Italian Cooperative in Sierra Leone, Arturo Rollo said besides the fund, Sierra Leone will receive the Food and Agriculture Organization’s technical backup.
Minister Sesay said that the project will not only support individual countries but will promote cross border trade.
Entitled, “food security through commercialization of agriculture in west Africa” the project is a sub regional intervention by the Italian government that will benefit Sierra Leone, Mali, Senegal, Liberia and Guinea-Bissau.
