Ivorian Ines Da Silva Crowned “Miss Sahel 2008″

The 18 year old Ivorian, Ines Da Silva, has been crowned “Miss Sahel” at the end of the second edition of the beauty pageant held in Bamako, the Malian capital.

Malian Fatoumata Kondé and Senegalese Fatou Niang were first and second runners-up, respectively on Saturday.

According to the organizers, Miss Ines Da Silva will be awarded a four-wheel drive car dubbed “Oumsang”after the name of the Malian icon of Mandingo songs, Oumou Sangare, one of the sponsors of the event.

Miss Da Silva will be queen for two years succeeding Burkina’s Alida Julie who won the title during the first edition held in Bamako in 2006.

The “Miss Sahel”2008 contest brought together about twenty hopefuls short-listed in Benin, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea (Conakry), Niger, Senegal, Togo, and Mali.
