125px-Flag_of_Cote_dIvoire.svgThe deputy chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission (CEI), Fatoumata Traoré Diop, has announced the possibility for electors to consult the provisional electoral roll on their mobile phone via short message services (SMS).

Speaking Thursday evening on the state-owned television, she said, as announced on Wednesday by the CEI chairperson, Robert Beugre Mambe, that the provisional electoral roll could be consulted via cell phone by sending the registration number to the operator.

The other forms of consultation, meaning via phone calls and the Internet will be made available as from Friday before issuing posters due on Monday.

“As for consultations via SMS the elector should send a message at 98.0.99, with the following : either his/her registration number, or his/her name and surname (leaving blank space between two words) in addition to his/her date of birth in one word.

For instance, KOUADIO Assa Issouf, born on 23 October 1940, the SMS will be written as follows : KOUADIO Assa Issouf 23101940”, as explained in a press release by the Prime Minister’s Office sent to APA.

As regards mobile phone consultations, the voter just needs to get in touch with the call centre at 22.529.529

After the displays of the rolls, the next step of this electoral process would address litigation as the prerequisite to the presidential election to be set on 24 November in Ouagadougou at the meeting of the Permanent Framework for Consultation (CPC).

All observers and stakeholders of the Ivorian crisis agree that the meeting could not be held on 29 November, as initially set.
