Japan Begins Issuing Visas in Malawi

March 1, 2008

Japan has started processing visas in Lilongwe the Malawi capital following the recent opening of its diplomatic mission offices.

For a long time, Malawians were processing visas and other Japanese travel documents from Lusaka in Zambia. Therefore, the opening of a Japanese embassy in Lilongwe is seen by many people as a big relief to impending travelers to Japan.

The Japanese Charge d’ Affairs to Malawi Hiroshi Matsumoto said in Lilongwe on Saturday that the development would reduce transportation costs for Malawians wanting to go to Japan either for business, school or holidays.

“We are issuing visas here in order to encourage a lot of Malawians to travel to Japan to do their businesses, schools and other visits,” he said.

The Malawian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Henri Mumba said the issuing of Japanese visas in the country will further strengthen the relationship between two governments.

This is a good development. I am on eof the first people to benefit from it. I got my visa from Lilongwe as I was coming to Japan.

Got something to say?
