Sidi Ould Tah, the Mauritanian Minister of Economic Affairs and Development and Hirashi Azima, the Japanese ambassador to Nouakchott signed the agreement providing the donation.

This financing will be directed to the 2009 flood-victims, according to Minister Ould Tah in a brief statement on the occasion.

The floods that occurred in late August 2009 had left hundreds of people homeless and caused much property damage in the city of Rosso (200km south of Nouakchott) on the Senegal River.

Japan is one of Mauritania’s key foreign partners. Its interventions are often channeled to sectors related to the daily life of Mauritanians, such as food security, health, drinking water supply, etc.
