John Edwards Suspends His Presidential Nominee Campaign
January 30, 2008
Speaking back in New Orleans where his campaign was launched, John Edwards has announced he is pulling out of the race to be the Democratic Presidential Nominee. In simple but stumbled words Edwards said, “It’s time for me to step aside so history can blaze its path.”
He said the Democratic party could make history if it has the strength and the backbone to take the Government back in November.
Edwards’ speech concentrated on the poor and working people of America. He said even though they are not necessarily voters “we see you, hear you, are with you and will never forget you.” He claimed that both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton had pledged through him to make ending the poverty of 37 million Americans a central theme of their campaign.
Possibly so he could have time to reflect on the events of the previous few weeks, Edwards did not at this time mention who he would support for the nominee position.
