Kenya’s Opposition Says More Than 1000 Killed Mostly By Bullets

Kenya’s opposition leader, Raila Odinga on Thursday claimed that more than 1000 people have died in the post election violence most of them from bullet wounds.

Addressing reporters in Nairobi, Odinga accused the police for shooting his supporters upon orders by the government.

Odinga also accused the police of shooting dead seven people on Thursday after his supporters clashed with police during the second day of the opposition mass protest.

“Police are shooting innocent civilians at will, the government has turned this country into a killing field of innocent people”, Odinga cried out.

Meanwhile, three people were shot dead by police on Wednesday in Kisumu city in western Kenya during mass protests called by the opposition Orange Democratic Movement over the disputed December 27 general elections.

For its part, government says only about 500 people have died so far with a quarter of a million displaced.
