Kenya Airways Suspends Flights to Francophone West Africa

July 31, 2008

Kenya Airways chief executive officer Titus Naikuni on Wednesday announced the airline has temporarily suspended flights to some West African destinations following a strike by the trade union of air traffic controllers in Francophone African countries.

He said among the cities affected are Dakar, Comoros, Bamako and Abidjan.

The airline has also suspended flights to Mayotte in the Comoros.

“We are monitoring the situation as it develops and we are hopeful that an amicable solution will be reached soon,” he said in a statement.

Kenya Airways flies to over 30 African destinations.

The workers, who are employed by ASECNA which covers 25 international airports in Francophone West and Central Africa, are demanding the payment of overdue premiums in a strike called on 29 July.
