125px-flag_of_kenyasvg4Kenya Airways is to launch flights to Malabo, the capital city of oil-rich Equatorial Guinea.

The airline announced on Wednesday that the twice weekly flights will depart from Nairobi every Tuesday and Friday at 1930hrs.

Flight KQ528 to Malabo will be via Douala in Cameroon where it will make a 50-minute stop before proceeding to Equatorial Guinea.

The return flight will take off from Malabo at 0010hrs (local time) and arrive in Nairobi at 0635 hrs (local time).

The introduction of flights to Malabo brings to 30 the number of African destinations that Kenya Airways flies to.

“Travelers on this route are expected to benefit greatly from the superb connections that KQ’s network provides to destinations across Africa,” Kenya Airways chief executive Titus Naikuni told reporters in Nairobi.

Despite the global economic crisis, Kenya Airways has continued to invest heavily in expanding its network to cater for the growing needs of the African traveler, he said.

Earlier this month, the airline commenced operations to Libreville in Gabon.
