Kenyan Government Bans Maize Exports to Curb Looming Food Shortages

The Kenyan government on Monday announced that it has banned maize exports to fight off looming food shortage in the country.
Speaking to reporters in Nairobi, Agriculture minister, William Ruto said the government will not export any maize exports to other countries in order to stockpile maize in the country to meet local consumption needs.
He said that already the government has imported 32,000 metric tones of maize and that by the end of the week, another 50,000 metric tones of maize will arrive in the country.
Over the months, Kenya has been importing maize from Tanzania, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda.
