Kidnapped German Released in Nigeria

March 6, 2008

A German employee of Julius Berger Plc., kidnapped on Tuesday by militants in Port Harcourt, has been freed. The spokesman of the Joint Military Task Force in Rivers State in southeastern Nigeria, Lt.-Col. Sagir Musa, told journalists in Port Harcourt, about 600km from Abuja that the German was freed on Wednesday night.

Musa said that the captive was released in an undisclosed location less than 24 hours after his abduction.

However, Musa could not confirm if any ransom was paid before his release or which militant group claimed responsibility for the kidnap of the expatriate.

The German was inspecting a road project on the East-West road in Emohua Local Government Area of the state when unknown gunmen picked him up on Tuesday.
