April 22, 2008
A team of the Niger national television, Tele Sahel, on Tuesday discovered one of the oldest people on earth, aged about 130 years, sources told APA here.
The old lady, called Tchaw, was found in the Kirtachi district, about 60 kilometers from Niamey, the capital.
That is a record of life expectancy after the death of the American lady at 132″, Djibo Ali, the Mayor of Kirtachi said.
Tchaw, unfortunately is blind and deaf but can recognize her close relations, sources said.
“She eats with temperance, and likes biscuits,” Ali said, adding that Tchaw bears traditional marks of the “Soudjé”, an ethnic group in Western Niger, particularly in the Filingué district (192 km East of Niamey).
The Niger media dubbed the report on the old woman a “discovery”, while some media already consider her to be the “the oldest citizen of mankind”.
