Lesotho’s Premier Slams African Politicians Who Do Not Accept Defeat

April 4, 2008

Lesotho’s Prime Minister, Pakalitha Mosisili has slammed African leaders who fail to accept defeat at the polls and eventually cause untold suffering to their compatriots.

Mosisil urged African leaders to respect the tenets of democracy and demonstrate love for their compatriots and remain fair in dealing with the public good.

The Premier made the state Thursday during the opening ceremony of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) Employment and Labour Sector (SADC ELS) minister’s meeting in Maseru.

He therefore urged ministers attending the conference to engage in a dialogue to resolve political issues in their countries.

About the meeting, Mosisili said the revival of SADC ELS comes at the time when Africa is faced with numerous challenges of unemployment, HIV/AIDS, labour migration and social security.

He however, noted that SADC ELS has always been in the forefront in responding to the political, socio-economic and technological developments, which have a direct bearing on the quality of life in the changing world through social dialogue.

The meeting which ends on Friday, will among other things, discuss productivity, social dialogue, poverty alleviation, international labor standards and activities of the African Union Labour and Sector Affairs Commission.
