Liberia Begins Sensitization for National Census
March 2, 2008
A one million gospel voice concert to promote the first national census in Liberia since 1984, has been launched in central Monrovia. The concert which brought together the country’s top gospel musical stars at the weekend, is intended to sensitize the public about the need to make themselves available for counting during the exercise to be held March 21-27.
The concert was organized by the Liberia Crusaders for Peace, a private entertainment group, in collaboration with the Liberia Institute of Geo-Information Services (LISGIS), which is conducting the census.
During the performances, each artist called on Liberians to stay home to be counted on the day of census in their communities.
The exercise, they said, was necessary to determine the scale of assistance each community in Liberia would need.
