Liberia Requests US to Double Budgetary Support
February 24, 2008
Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has disclosed that her government has requested the United States government to double its budgetary support to Liberia.
The U.S’s current budgetary support to Liberia stands at more than $150 million.
“We know what they call the the FY09. The administration has presented their request to the US Congress and we know that there is a doubling of what they call the FY08,” President Sirleaf told reporters at the presidential mansion.
The Liberian leader said she was also confident the US would provide other kinds of support than those discussed during the US President’s visit to Liberia Thursday.
The President did not name the areas, but the presidential mansion named them as the energy sector and unemployment, among others as areas earmarked for help.
