125px-Flag_of_Samoa.svg3The family owned Litia’s Beach Resort at Lalomanu is being rebuilt after everything was swept by last September’s tsunami. The family chief, Taula Faula’au Sini told Talamua that they are currently building a seawall and a higher foundation in anticipation of future natural disasters.

Litia’s is one of the original beach fale resorts in the area that started in 1993 and developed into one of the major tourist attractions with a bar and restaurant. When it was destroyed by the waves, the operation had 16 beach bungalows with verandahs and beach bar and restaurant overlooking the beach and sea. Founded by Litia and her late husband Taula Sini, they talk of hard work turning a rubbish management area into a beautiful and relaxing place for tourists both overseas and local.

Overtime, Litia’s had become a lucrative business that provided for the family and employment for some living around the Lalomanu area. The family had also provided for their village obligations and especially in serving God which they attributed the whole success.

Rebuilding Litia’s require excavating part of the mountain behind the resort to reclaim part of the beachfront for a higher foundation for the new resort. Taula said that the new resort will have a tsunami alarm and warning system and will also have escape routes to higher ground directly behind the beach.
