Live Ice Hockey Commentary of Team GB Olympic Final Qualifiers on Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

Flag of the United KingdomIce Hockey UK and the BBC have announced that the three upcoming Olympic final qualifiers in Riga, Latvia will be covered live on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra on February 7, 8 and 10.

Live commentary of all three games will be provided by Seth Bennett, plus reporter Nick Hope will cover the tournament providing news, features and interviews back to audiences in the UK.

Great Britain won Olympic gold in 1936 in Germany after winning a bronze medal at the 1924 Olympics in France, but their last appearance came back in 1948 in Switzerland, where they finished in fifth place.

GB begin the Group E tournament with a match against the hosts Latvia on Thursday February 7 2013 (5:30pm UK time). They will then face France on Friday February 8 (1:30pm) and Kazakhstan on Sunday February 10 (11am).

The winner of the group will qualify for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

IHUK general secretary, Andy French, says: “This is a fantastic showcase for the national team and we are proud to be linking up with such a prestigious organization.

“Interest in GB is at an all-time high and we are so pleased the BBC will be with the team in Latvia.”
