Lockjaw Immunisation Campaign Launched in Cote-d’Ivoire

The Ivorian government on Friday launched an immunization campaign against lockjaw targeting three million women and the administration of vitamin A to over 3,219,546 children during six days (from the 16th to the 21st May).
According to the management of the broad-based immunization department at the Public Health and Hygiene Ministry, the campaign is aimed at eradicating tetanus among women and fighting vitamin A deficiency among children from 6 months to 5 years.
All in all, 3.860.845 women from 15 to 49 years old and 3.219.546 children in 54 sanitary districts are targeted for a total cost estimated at 616.051.390 FCFA made possible thanks to the support of development partners, including UNICEF, WHO and UNFPA.
The second dose will be administered from June the 20th to the 25th, while the third dose is billed for December 10th to 15th 2008.
