Los Angeles Times Announces First Presidential Endorsements Since 1972

February 1, 2008

The Los Angeles Times editorial board has endorsed Senator John McCain and Senator Barack Obama in this year’s presidential primary election, marking the first such endorsement since 1972. The full transcript of the endorsement will run in this Sunday’s Opinion section.

The endorsements come on the heels of a series of editorials published in The Times throughout December under the banner, “American Values and the Next President” (http://www.latimes.com/values08), culminating with an editorial about the pending endorsement and inviting readers to share their views with the paper.

The Times sums up their endorsement for Obama by saying:

“In the language of metaphor, Clinton is an essay, solid and reasoned; Obama is a poem, lyric and filled with possibility. Clinton would be a valuable and competent executive, but Obama matches her in substance and adds something that the nation has been missing far too long — a sense of aspiration.”

It’s incredible to see the support the media is giving to Obama. I really hope Hillary Clinton wins!

Got something to say?
