Madagascar’s consensus Prime Minister, Eugene Mangalaza has been dismissed following his return from Maputo (Mozambique) where he had participated along with leaders of the three political movements and other heads of institutions of the transition in peace talks convened by the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
Three months and 23 days after his appointment as head of the transitional government following the meeting of the four Malagasy political movements, Eugene Mangalaza is leaving office without being able to achieve a lot as a result of lack of compromise between different political factions.
However, the chairman of the transition, Andry Rajoelina, has not yet appointed a new head of government.
In a radio and television comment on Wednesday evening, Rajoelina had suggested that members of the current government would continue performing their duties.
Madagascar has been shaken since the second half of January 2009 by a political crisis resulting in the dismissal of the elected president, Marc Ravalomanana, and his replacement by his political rival, Andry Rajoelina, known as TGV.
