U.S. pop star Madonna is in Malawi, and is expected to lay a foundation stone of a $15million girls’ school in the capital Lilongwe on Tuesday.
The singer, who arrived on Sunday, is building the girls’ academy through her locally-based charity organization known as Raising Malawi to help Malawian girls have quality education.
“Madonna’s vision is to empower girls to become Malawi’s future leaders. The academy would teach girls to challenge themselves, serve their local communities and develop their country,” a Raising Malawi press release said.
Before she leaves the country, the singer is expected to meet Malawi President Bingu Wa Mutharika within a week.
Meanwhile members of the British and US press have camped at Capital Hotel in Lilongwe in hopes of getting a glimpse of the megastar, who has adopted two infants – a boy and a girl – from the country, where she sponsors some orphanages.
